孝

＜孝  xiào＞ は中国社会の根幹の一つ。

孝  xiào  本义为尽心尽力地奉养父母，引申转指晚辈在尊长去世后要在一定时期内遵守的礼俗，又引申指孝服。

 

最近携帯でよく見ている中国のドラマの中で＜孝＞の一字ではあまり出てこず、＜孝顺＞が一番多く、次いで＜孝道＞、＜孝心＞、＜孝敬＞がときどき出てくる。英語は filial piety と訳され、決まり文句になっているが、意味がよく分からない。文字通りでは 

filial 形容詞 = of a son or daughter
piety = strong belief in a religion
